What Is Balayage?

This low-maintenance hair colour is usually hand-painted in vertical sections throughout your hair, leaving your base colour at the roots and mid-lengths, growing lighter towards the ends.

We love creating sun-kissed blonde balayage, but we can use balayage for any colour including red balayage, pastel balayage shades and fashion balayage looks.  Chat to your colour technician about the look you desire.

Balayage V Highlights

Balayage is a technique used to create highlights in your hair. Traditional highlights use the same intensity throughout the lengths, whilst balayage is gently applied from the roots usually growing lighter towards the ends.

Root regrowth is less noticeable with balayage, making it a lower maintenance hair colour option than traditional highlights which provide a more consistent pattern of colour throughout your hair.

What Is Foilayage?

'Foilayage' is the perfect blend of balayage & traditional highlights with hand-painted highlights sitting alongside traditional highlights that are wrapped in foils to intensify the lifting effect.

Foilayage highlights are applied to sections of the hair in V shapes, away from the root to provide a natural-looking regrowth. They are often placed around the front hairline to frame the face and enhance your facial features.

Blonde Balayage

Blonde balayage is, perhaps, the most popular balayage look because it creates a gorgeous sun-kissed effect that looks great throughout the year.  There are hundreds of blonde shades so let us find a blonde balayage that lights up your complexion and brings out the colour of your eyes.

Babylights

Babylights are delicate highlights created using a very fine hair colour technique to mimic the multi-dimensional hair colour seen on children’s hair.  Babylights are usually applied around the hairline and throughout the parting to create a lovely, gently lifted effect on your hair colour.

Face-Framing

Face-framing highlights are the latest in hair colour fashion and let you experiment with your hair colour by just applying some highlights around the hairline.  Also known as The Money Piece, these face-framing highlights can be created with almost any hair colour.

What is balayage and how is it different from traditional highlights?

«

Balayage is a hair colouring technique where highlights are hand-painted onto the hair to create a natural, sun-kissed effect. Unlike traditional foiling techniques, balayage results in softer, more blended transitions between shades, giving a more natural look with less noticeable regrowth lines.

How do I know if balayage is right for my hair?

«

Balayage is versatile and can be adapted to suit different hair types and lengths. It's particularly great for those looking for a low-maintenance hair colour option that grows out beautifully.

During your appointment at Koztello Salon, our stylists will assess your hair texture, colour history, and desired outcome to determine if balayage is the best choice for you.

How often will I need to touch up my balayage?

«

One of the benefits of balayage is its low-maintenance nature. Because the highlights are painted on in a way that mimics natural hair growth patterns, regrowth is less noticeable compared to traditional highlights. Depending on your hair growth and desired look, touch-ups are typically needed every 8-12 weeks to maintain your balayage.

Can balayage work on dark hair?

«

Yes, balayage can be adapted for both light and dark hair colours. Our skilled colourists at Koztello Salon can create custom balayage effects that complement your natural base colour, whether you're aiming for subtle caramel tones on dark brown hair or dramatic blonde balayage on black hair.

During your consultation, we'll discuss options that enhance your features and suit your style preferences.
